Dave’s Bio

A life of full of excitement and adventure.  Teenage years were spent in both hard work on the family farm and days full of horse activities, shooting, archery and hunting.  What more could a young man ask for?  Graduation from school led to an early and short career in the military.  In those days a young officer was expected to study and get high marks a fact that seemed to escape my young head.

David BurkeFrom there I quickly went through a sequence of boring jobs until I decided that my future lay in the west.  So a high rigger was the next stint until I watched a man go off an 80 foot span.  The lucky guy only received minor injuries but the picture stayed with me so I soon decided to seek a better way of earning a living.  A few years later it seemed that a career in sales and marketing was the way to go so with persistence and determination I finally convinced a multi national company that I was their last great hope.  I started as a detail sales rep and left as Marketing Manager for Canada.

For the next few years family and career were the chief preoccupations but then a friend introduced me to the martial arts.  What a fit, I have been a student of the arts for over 40 years and currently practice Iaido (Way of the Sword) just receiving my third degree black belt this month.

Throughout this period I continued to enjoy and participate in two other interests. Guns and horses.  Currently I am the National Coordinator for Canadian Defensive Pistol and CSSA Director of Action Pistol Training and the founder of a new firearms training group known as CQB Firearms Training Associates.

While I do not currently own a horse, my last one having moved on to the big corral in the sky I still maintain an active interest.  This past summer a group of friends neighbors and I created a two day event called the Coe Hill Wild West Weekend, complete with an old west town, horse events, stagecoach and much much more.  It was a great success and even got me back on a horse again, WOW.

I think from the foregoing you have an idea that I am very actively involved in shooting, martial arts and horse handling activities.  I hope to continue those interests and active participation for many years to come.
